Time Machine - now wouldn't that be fun !!!

A bit out of the blue.

Ever since I was small I have always wondered if man/woman could ever come up with a time machine. A device with which man/woman could travel back and forth in time. It is really very fascinating and mind boggling. I mean, we could actually go back in time and do all of it all over again. It would solve so many problems, mysteries, affairs, remove risks, communication errors. We would have knowledge of the future and would plan it accordingly. C’mon it would solve so many problems of the world. It would help us correct our mistakes we made in the past or even change them. We all have read HP4 and “Time Machine” by H. G. Wells and seen Krrish. We all know what it does. It would be awesome to re – live some of our most exhilarating and thrilling times of our lives.

A few weeks ago I was talking to Mr. Ranga (physics tuitor) about this when we were doing light. I asked him if it possible to go back in time and all that. He said it can be done if man can make something that can travel faster than the speed of light. But we would be able to only see the past again, not change it. Any of you guys have any other bright ideas of how to make time machine? Let your imagination flow…. c’mon.

If I get hold of a machine like this, first thing, I would go back to eleventh and change my stream to commerce. Taking science was one of the mistakes of my life. I would re-live all the 'out of school' moments of 2005. One of my most enjoyable year. I got to know a lot of people. Got to learn a lot of things. Got to enjoy a lot. Got good marks when needed and most of all spent a lot of time with friends. Secondly, I would like to see Robbie Williams concert again…

..his performance was brilliance. Plus I had a great time with friends before his concert as well. Thanks Anish!!! Thirdly, I would have gone back to 7th or 8th grade where I played street (parking lot) cricket and football. It was so competitive. We used fight more than we actually played. Bharath remember the Pathans who came to play with us? They taught us how to swing the tape ball !!! And I used to wear my Beckham jersey and they used to say “ey beck–men ko dekh”. And Govind used to go mad trying to get me out. Funny man. There were so other many hilarious and memorable times that I would love to go back to anytime. Festivals like Holi, Dussera and Diwali in Delhi were unforgettable times with family and friends. Rahul and I was once burnt a tree while bursting crackers. That was like WOOOOOOWWW…there are only few moments in my life that are to die for…...on the other hand….Hell I would like to go back and uncover the truth of all these conspiracy theories. That would be entertaining!!!

If you guys got the chance to have a time machine or got any chance to go back and forth in time. Which moment would you love to back to?

I am on memory lane, aren't I? Point in doing this…same… getting to a know little more about you guys and who knows someone may end up designing a real time machine…(Bharath, Govind, Tejas……any ideas)

Hey Romit,
Nice blog! It really makes you delve deep into your mind for those memories that shine on but never burn. Coming to time machines, well its pretty cool. And you ought to study astro physics!
Well time machines would be fun. Personally, I'd like to take a holiday to a time a few thousand years ago, when you could find a place on the earth without people! Some peace for the maind that would be! Though I'm really not sure how the world would function with time machines. They would cause chaos with everyone zipping back and forth to change events. And then when interests clash, you'd have people going back and forth. A bit like undo, redo on a word document:S! And like Stephen Hawking said, the absence of visitors from the future means that the time machine has not been invented in the future, but it may and... well thats when everything gets very weird.. so I'll skip the rest.
As for making a time machine, well travelling faster than light is an option (since the coefficient of relativity would become negative- for all sat 2 ppl :P), or use a wormhole! That shouldn't be too hard, right?

Keep it up!

mmmm

whenever i think of a time machince, and how to use one.... i always think about going back and rectifying something i regret.
everyone has regrets... something you did, some important decisions you made, something personal...
but then again, i dont know of changing things already done is the wisest thing to do.. i dunno!

when it comes to re-living experiences... there are looooooads of things id love to go through again. the "teacher's days" and all the practices, all the concerts (scorpions, robbie williams, jazz festival, desert rock), some events in school.. so much stuff man!

but then again... id like to think that theres a whhoooooole life ahead of me, and theres sooo much more for me to do.
so before getting caught up with all the 'time travelling' id like to live my share of experiences!

well said ali!

however tempting time travelling seems, i would still prefer to live my life as it is, have the regrets, make mistakes, try to learn from them and move forward..

but going back in time is every human's fantasy - just like you-know-what (replace each word by a letter to get a word)

anyway romit i like your approach to blogging (as of now). you put in this realism and honesty thats fun reading....blog on!

Nice post Romit!

As far as the practicality of time travel goes, its impossible according to modern physics. Yeah, you can travel faster than light and see the rays from the source once again. But, according to Einstein and his relativity, you need infinite amount of energy, which is not possible due to the energy conservation law.
One possible way is that we find a flaw in these rules of physics. Or else, we find a source of infinite energy ... God or something (but oh yeah ... you're not a believer ... so in short, you can't time travel)!

Nerdy stuff aside, lets see...
If I were Rohith Salim (no offence), I would take a peek at a SAT paper of the future, and in time, not panic during the exam (if thats possible:P)!

Right now, I wouldn't mind finding out which colleges I will actually get accepted into, so that I don't have to run after the teachers for each college.

I wouldn't mind finding out the lyrics of future hit songs, so that I can offer the band who eventually should make it the lyrics. If they don't officially accept, I'll sue, as they're obviosuly going to use it!! ... EVIL as it may seem.

Then there's the small matter of finding out who will next irritate me in class by making a mark on my book so that.... for example,

Romit - (draws a line on my book)> and goes 'HAHAHA'
Govind - Turn to page 63 of your book
Romit - (Finds an entirely blue page on his book) 'NOOOOOOOO"
That'd be fun!!

But seriously, time travel wouldn't be fun. Whats the point of spoiling the enigma of life? Its like reading a summary of a book's entire plot before actually reading it!

WHY WHY why would u want a time machine?

To alter all the incidents that you weren’t happy with in the past? I wouldn’t want that... u learn from everything u do ... all the mistakes...incidents ...everything!And then u learn to move on...

If u did have a time machine then you’d probably think that you would have nothing to regret. Do you really want to be that perfect?

It would mean that while you are currently living your life, when you come across those junctures where that one decision may change ur future... and when you may have to make a choice between 2 paths – the good and the bad ...or lets say what u want is different from what is considered morally right... at that time u may chose what u want first (human instinct) ...and if u regret that ... then u change to what is actually principally right? That’s good in a way as u get a feel of both ways… experience :P … but then everyone will be tempted to do what they want and not that what is necessarily right..ultimately...chaos!! And then you alter your original decision (with the time machine)... result = satisfaction? DOUBTFUL! What will you be satisfied with? That u changed your life for the better … after having making the wrong decision for everything!?

And if u really had a time machine u wont have any memories of any of your friends…because for all u know they went and altered their past … so what u think is their past is actually not but then again is !?

Though somewhere within us.. we all may like the idea of a time machine to relive the pleasant memories of our past … but then life loses its charm … isn’t it supposed to be… live life to the fullest! Enjoy every minute … make the best of what u have!…its one chance…one life… isn’t THAT the beauty of life?

PS: Even if I wanted a time machine… I am a commerce student! :P(sorry cant help u out with that!) :)

There are some people in the world becos of their careless judgement or bad decision have lost a lot. family, money, property, health etc. it can be sometimes very traumatising and painful. it can kill u mentally. i know people like that and i have seen their pain. You can see it in the news everyday.
besides.....
For me, i would like to re live, and not alter, some memories, some incidents, some moments of my life, because i really treasure them. i really would like to experiece those few moments of joy and happiness again. It is like what anish said, well sometimes because it can give u a sense of satisfaction. I live in Dubai and i really miss celebrating Diwali in India with my family, i miss my the walks to the temple and the fish market with my grand father, who has passed away. Those moments are "priceless"and can never come back. That kind of stuff. Wouldn't you guys like to see what were your parents or grand parents like at your age or even go back see when did the human civilisation develop, for that matter.
Yea, i did tok about changing my stream thats becos...... that is one regret which i have in my mind for a long time and i would like to change it somehow. it is my mistake and i am going through alot becos of that.

now if I had a time machine , I would go back in time and take anonomoyous to the opticians :P:P (jus kkiddin ankita!)

no seriously , i must agree with the deputies...the idea of time travel is unappealing to me . i mean we would not be able to regret anything then or savour any moments of triumph etc etc.

eg : Suppose a time machine is invented today. Suppose Romit dies tommorow. no one would feel any regret for romits death. no one would miss him. they would just content themselves with the idea that they can visit him anytime:S.
and thats just not the way things are sppsd to be.

taking into account the borader picture....you seem to think only good can come of a time machine. i mean what if some russian maniac goes back in time and ignites the cold war!!...there would be no world for romit to be born in , forget his death.

the stuff you would like to change , is a very ..should i say kiddish opinion. thats my take on it anyway. my opninon - for now anwyay.

later .. seeya!

ps - anonomoyous - seriously - tht optician.....
govind - i will kik ur asssss!

If we could travel into the past, it's mind-boggling what would be possible. For one thing, history would become an experimental science, which it certainly isn't today. I do not see the need for time travel. Why would one like to go to the future? Take life one step at a time.

We learn from our mistakes, with time travel we would never learn, instead we would alter everything to suit us. With alteration we would never learn to regret most importantly where would we be? Everybody would try and make lives suit their purposes which will indeed affect someone else’s intentions.

Live life as it is, don’t waste your time thinking of the impossible, or be stuck on the “what if “ factor. For the future is something which everyone reaches at the rate of sixty minutes an hour, whatever he does, whoever he is.

ello Romit! My first comment on your first blog! Momentous indeed. For a long time i wondered if I made something spin in a vacuum and then made the vacuum spin the opposite direction, I would create some sort of strange energy or time machine. It's been a long time since then though(6 months give or take) and yes Ive accepted it may take a bit more. I dont really have anything different to say from every1 else though a thought did come to mind- wouldnt travelling to the past be the same as knowing the future? Besides the laws of nature or as aaron put it the way things r supposed to be will always prevail. So even if we do make a time machine and change our pasts, we'll always have regrets even if reliving the past is itself one of them. It's only human to screw up. And another thought, wouldnt travelling to the past then become our future (or present) and therefore cease to be the past because we're having a new experience anyway? I can almost hear Ali rubbing his chin going 'indeed' now and will savour the note im leaving on!
Toodles and poodles!
